Independence
~
I am the British soldier, died fighting out of loyalty to my king.
I am the Patriot, died for my right to liberty.
I am the Union soldier, died so that others may share my freedom.
I am the Native American, died because my freedom was being stolen from me.
I am the Allies soldier, died to end tyranny.
I am the German boy, died young because I was forced to fight.
I am the German rebel, died because I don't believe in my leader's ideas.
I am a Vietnam soldier, died to end communism.
I am a victim of nine-eleven, died because of other's hatred.
Give those who have died your thoughts today,
On the day of our independence.

For those non-Americans, today is Independence Day, the day which we gained our freedom from the British. I wrote a couple poems that were inspired by this, and the thought of how many people have died in their fights for freedom, even in places outside the USA. Hope its a good reflection on this.

I like how this brings those who fought for what we have today to the fore. A very fitting poem for this day. (Well, actually, for me now it was yesterday.)
